ATLANTA - Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez wants nothing more than a chance to earn back his title belt, but
he knows now is not the time.
Currently scheduled to fight Frank Mir at May's UFC 146 event,
persistent rumors indicate Velasquez's opponent may be pulled from the
matchup in favor of a shot at Dos Santos.
If it happens that way, so be it, said Velasquez. Just get him another
fight, he said, and get him closer to an honest shot at the title.

A few days after Alistair Overeem failed a drug test and likely cost himself a title shot, UFC officials have announced no replacement for his UFC 146 bout with heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos.
However, there have been some interesting developments.
Veteran middleweight and light heavyweight Dan Henderson has expressed his interest in the bout, and UFC president Dana White seemingly has ruled out the possibility of Frank Mir stepping in.

UFC 146's lineup is getting bigger and bigger - both literally and figuratively.
UFC officials today announced that former UFC heavyweight champions Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir will meet at the May event.
The winner gets a guaranteed title shot against either champion Junior Dos Santos or Alistair Overeem, who meet in the night's headliner.

According to UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta, former UFC heavyweight champions Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez are on a collision course, while familiar foes and former light heavyweight champs Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz are in line for a trilogy bout.
Fertitta revealed the planned matchups overnight via Twitter.
No date for either fight was revealed.

A heavily rumored matchup between former UFC heavyweight champ Cain
Velasquez and Antonio Silva is
not happening, a source today told MMAjunkie.com.
The bout was reportedly targeted for April, when the UFC is scheduled to return to Atlanta for UFC 146.
While Silva is still targeted to make his octagon debut on that month, his opponent is undetermined.

MMAjunkie.com today requested and obtained the list of official disclosed paydays from the California State Athletic Commission.
The total disclosed payroll for the event was an evil-sounding $666,000.

MMA has a new most-watched fight in U.S. television history.
This past weekend's UFC on FOX headliner between Cain Velasquez and new champ Junior Dos Santos peaked with a solid 8.8 million viewers on the FOX network, MMAjunkie.com today confirmed with industry sources.
Within three minutes of the bout's conclusion, the audience dwindled to 5.9 million viewers. Overall, the event averaged 5.7 million viewers.
