A subsequent opportunity to coach "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2" opposite Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira came as a surprise.
"I didn't think I was as known in Brazil as Nogueira and (Mauricio) 'Shogun' (Rua) and Lyoto (Machida), so I really didn't believe that it was going to happen," Werdum said.

Eddie Mendez, a California-based fighter and onetime Strikeforce competitor, has signed with the world's biggest MMA promotion.
Mendez and his management team at Iridium Sports today announced the signing via Twitter, though terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Luke Rockhold-Lorenz Larkin middleweight title fight targeted for Jan. 12 Strikeforce eventNovember 08, 2012 (04:45) [ Indexed from MMAjunkie ] A month after their title fight was shut down due to injury, and then card cancellation, it appears Luke Rockhold and Lorenz Larkin have a new dance date.
Rockhold, the Strikeforce middleweight champion, and Larkin are being targeted for an as yet unannounced Strikeforce card on Jan. 12. Sources close to the promotion on Wednesday told MMAjunkie.com that the fight booking is in the process of being finalized.
Rockhold and Larkin were scheduled to meet at Strikeforce's canceled Nov. 3 show in Oklahoma City.

He plans to take an offer from the recently revived Japanese promotion DREAM to fight Hayato Sakurai or Satoru Kitaoka at "DREAM.18: Special NYE 2012."
"I'd much rather fight here in America because I'd get more money ... but if I have to, (I'll fight on) Dec. 31," Masvidal told MMAjunkie.com Radio. "I'll be kicking ass in Japan."

On Monday, a secured spot on "The Ultimate Fighter 17" was nixed when
Zuffa was unable to get approval from Strikeforce broadcast partner
Showtime to release the fighter, Brunson's manager today told MMAjunkie.com.
Officials from Strikeforce parent company Zuffa now hope to place the
middleweight on a card planned for January, though he has yet to receive
an official booking.

repair a bad tear to his AC joint, though a timetable for his return is
unknown.
Melendez's manager and father, Gilbert Melendez Sr., expressed optimism
that his son will be able to compete on a Strikeforce card planned for
mid-January, though it depends on how quickly the fighter's recovery
progresses.
"There's no definite yes," Melendez today told MMAjunkie.com. "It all depends if his body is healing on time as
we anticipate."

Cormier was scheduled to headline a since-canceled Nov. 3 Strikeforce event against UFC import Frank Mir, and officials said the next event is now slated for January.
Cormier hopes the Mir bout, which will be his final one in Strikeforce before an anticipated move to the UFC, still happens, though.

Kennedy anticipates January fight, possible compensation for canceled Strikeforce eventOctober 16, 2012 (01:45) [ Indexed from MMAjunkie ] Tim Kennedy admittedly was angry when suspicions that the Nov. 3 card he was scheduled for were confirmed online - before he knew it.
But after a receiving a phone call from a Strikeforce executive, the middleweight feels confident the promotion will take care of him and other displaced fighters.
"It seems like Zuffa is doing right by us, so I'm grateful for the way they handled it once they had no other choice," Kennedy told MMAjunkie.com.
