Former UFC interim heavyweight champ Shane Carwin meets promotional newcomer and grappling specialist Jon Olav Einemo at UFC 131.
UFC president Dana White today confirmed the booking during an online chat with The Seattle Times.
MMAjunkie.com first reported Carwin's involvement in the June event earlier this year, but officials struggled to secure an opponent.

Two of the world's top heavyweights may cross promotional boundaries and one big ocean for some training.
In a recent media call promoting his Feb. 12 fight with Antonio Silva, Strikeforce grand-prix entrant and famed veteran Fedor Emelianenko said his fight camp will be based in his native Russia but that he'd like to train with someone such as Shane Carwin.
The U.S.-based Carwin said it'd be an "honor."

Following recent back surgery, Shane Carwin expects to make his return to the cage in June at UFC 131.
MMAjunkie.com first passed along the news on Monday, and Carwin confirmed the tentative booking on his official website, www.shane-carwin.com.
In the update, Carwin also confirmed he had been approached about fighting "The Ultimate Fighter 10" winner Roy Nelson before he ultimately was scheduled for a meeting with Frank Mir at UFC 130.

Former UFC interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin is recovering from a Tuesday surgery on his back that his manager,
Jason Genet, has deemed "successful."
Genet posted updates on his Twitter account today regarding his client's condition.
"Carwin is out of surgery and in the recovery room," Genet stated. "No complications during surgery."

The back injury that forced former UFC interim champion Shane Carwin out of UFC 125 now has put him in the operating room.
Carwin, who was slated to fight fellow heavyweight Roy Nelson at the Jan. 1 show, recently pulled out of the fight because of lingering back problems.
Rather than risk the injury worsening and having an unknown recovery and return time, he opted for surgery, which began this morning.

A back injury and expected surgery have forced Shane Carwin out of his UFC 125 co-main-event fight with fellow heavyweight Roy Nelson.
After dealing with back pain, the former title challenger underwent an MRI on Monday that detected an injury that "may really require surgery," he wrote on his official website, shane-carwin.com.
UFC officials have not announced his withdrawal from the UFC 125 card, which takes place Jan. 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
