Deiveson Figueiredo out to behead 'traitor' Brandon Moreno at UFC 270: 'He betrayed Cejudo'

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Deiveson Figueiredo is out for revenge, not only for himself, but now his new friend and training partner Henry Cejudo.

The former UFC flyweight champion faces Brandon Moreno in a trilogy bout on Jan. 22 at UFC 270. And for this third preparation against Moreno, Figueiredo (20-2-1 MMA, 9-2-1 UFC) moved his training camp from Brazil to Fight Ready MMA to train along side Cejudo, a former two-division UFC champion, and his coach Eric Albarracin.

Figueiredo is determined to get his belt back from the Mexican champion, but also defeat him in honor of Cejudo.

“I come here because the main thing was the focus and I wanted to be out of my gym,” Figueiredo told MMA Junkie. “But I wanted to be with Cejudo and Eric because he’s the champion and he made the champion. Lions walk with lions.

“I love to be here and when I arrived Cejudo told me about Brandon Moreno, what Brandon Moreno did with him. Moreno lived two years in Cejudo’s house and after that left for another camp to help Benavidez fight Cejudo.  He betrayed Cejudo. I’m going to be very happy in taking Moreno’s head off and giving it to Cejudo because in our sport you can’t be a traitor.”

Moreno trained with Cejudo prior to joining “The Ultimate Fighter 24,” which was coached by Cejudo and Joseph Benavidez. Moreno was picked by Benavidez to join his team. The Tijuana native built a friendship with Benavidez during the show and continued to train with him in Las Vegas after the season ended.

Although Moreno’s main training has always gone down at Entram Gym, Figueiredo saw the move as betrayal. He’s very happy to have linked with Cejudo ,and now sees him and his team as family.

“I’m very happy to be here,” Figueiredo said. “Eric is a great coach and a great person. We talked over Instagram for a while and Eric invited me to come here. It’s funny, it’s like it was destiny, and now I’m part of the family. I want to train here in Fight Ready and now it’s happening. Eric is very smart and he’s a big piece.”
