Joe Rogan: Conor McGregor Will Always Have A Problem With Nurmagomedov's Wrestling

While Conor McGregor continues to push for a rematch against lightweight kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov, Ultimate Fighting Championship color commentator Joe Rogan maintains that one of the main dynamics of their first matchup is unlikely to change.

Nurmagomedov and McGregor previously fought back at UFC 229 last October with the “The Eagle” securing multiple takedowns and dominating his opponent for most of the fight before eventually submitting him in the fourth round. As the fight ended, Nurmagomedov jumped the cage to confront McGregor’s team and a brawl ensued, leading to a number of suspensions and fines handed out by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) including a nine-month ban to Nurmagomdeov and a six-month ban to McGregor.

During a recent episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Rogan said no matter how much McGregor trains he’ll never be able to hang with the wrestling of Nurmagomedov.

“He’s always going to have a problem with Khabib. Khabib’s wrestling is so high-level, it’s so different, he smothers you in a way that you think you have good takedown defense until you run into that mother-----.”

Nurmagomedov is rumored to be fighting the interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier next in a title unification bout at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi. McGregor, on the other hand, is scheduled to have a meeting with UFC president Dana White in Los Angeles to discuss his fighting future after their meeting before UFC Fort Lauderdale fell through.
