James Webb Flattens Jason Radcliffe in Makeshift Headliner at Cage Warriors 99

It wasn’t the headliner that was initially intended for Cage Warriors 99, but the end result was nonetheless entertaining.

According to the promotion’s original plans, Saturday’s main event at Charter Hall in Colchester, England, was to have been a flyweight title bout between Nathan Greyson and Blaine O'Driscoll. Greyson, however, elected not to cut weight and was stripped of the 125-pound belt.

After Greyson vs. O'Driscoll fell off the card, Colchester’s own James Webb stepped up to the main event on short notice and smashed Jason Radcliffe in the opening stanza of their bout to earn a technical knockout triumph.

Webb landed a short hook on the sweet spot just behind the Radcliffe’s ear. It took a few seconds for “The Assassin” to feel the impact of that shot, but he collapsed immediately after, ending the contest at the 1:26 mark of the frame. In victory, Webb passed his toughest test so far as a professional and called for a middleweight title shot in his post-fight interview.

In the co-feature, Cory Tait showed striking finesse against Gavin Kelly in their bantamweight contest. Tait shuttered Kelly’s dreams of glory with a tremendous left hook to the liver. After dropping his opponent, Tait switched him off with some vicious hammerfists 2:42 into round one. Thanks to that body shot, “Capcom” snapped a two-bout skid and gained his first victory since 2014.

Elsewhere on the main card, Danish featherweight Mads Burnell (10-3) submitted Lukasz Rajewski (8-4) via rear-naked choke 3:23 into the first round of their clash; Nathan Jones (12-9) bested Brad Wheeler (17-3) via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-28, 29-27) at 170 pounds; and Jamie Richardson (7-5) finished Phil Wells (11-6) with elbows forr a TKO win at the 4:45 mark of round one.
