“Yeah, I think so. Things have been going well. The pieces of the puzzle are finally starting to come together and I feel like I’m just now entering my prime.” Smith continued, “as far as Volkan goes, its really never been about the names to me. It’s more about the number in front of their name that I’m concerned with.”
Smith (30-13 MMA, 6-2 UFC) last fought in July in Hamburg, Germany, knocking out “Shogun” in devastating fashion. In a recent interview, Smith said he wanted UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier to put up his title or vacate it.
Oezdemir (15-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) earned the nickname “No Time” after finishing his opponents early in the first round. The 29-year-old knocked out Jimi Manuwa and Misha Cirkunov in a combined time of just 70 seconds before being stopped by Cormier in January.
Smith versus Oezdemir takes place on Oct. 27 at UFC Fight Night 138 inside Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.
