Michael Page Not Surprised by Paul Daley’s Absence from Bellator Bracket: ‘He Does His Own Thing’

Michael Page may only be 31 years old, but the British striking ace is already a five-year Bellator veteran. The Viacom-backed promotion has changed drastically throughout those five years, with the newest development being Bellator’s new streaming deal with DAZN and a welterweight tournament that’s stacked with talent.

MVP (13-0) spoke to Sherdog.com on Tuesday about the newly announced welterweight tournament and who he wants next.

“Look at the names in our division. Putting them all together in a tournament; it’s going to be one the most talked about things in MMA. I’m excited to be a part of it,” Page said.

After dispatching David Rickels with a second-round verbal submission due to strikes in May, the still-undefeated MVP is now poised for a return in Bellator’s welterweight tournament, which is set to kick off at Bellator 205 in September.

The tournament will also feature the likes of Rory MacDonald; former Bellator welterweight champions Douglas Lima and Andrey Koreshkov, as well as Ed Ruth, Yaroslav Amosov, Lorenz Larkin and Jon Fitch. The tenth participant has yet to be revealed.

Yet one name is conspicuously missing from the welterweight tournament, and that is the same man Page has been angling to fight now for more than a year.

“You know who I want -- Paul Daley,” Page said. ”If I get that fight, I would leave MMA happy. We need to fight.”

Daley and Page have bickered back and forth for some time now, with both British strikers competing in Bellator at the same weight class. But as of now, Daley is not announced as a participant in the tournament. Page is reportedly in contract negotiations with Bellator and could enter the bracket once a deal is reached.

“If he ends up in the tournament, that would be good. I’d love to be the first person to kick him right out of [the tournament]. He does his own thing,” Page aid. “It doesn’t really surprise me that he’s not in it.

“I’m in the tournament and that’s all that matters.”

Page’s first opponent in the tournament has yet to be announced.
