ESPN Brings First Boxing Card to Ocean Resort Casino
ESPN will air the first ever boxing event held at the brand-new
Ocean Resort Casino, a state of the art resort
property set to open June 28 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The card
will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, and will be headlined by a main
event matchup between Bryant Jennings (23-2, 13 KO’s) and Alexander
"Sascha" Dimitrenko (41-3, 26 KO’s) for the WBO international
heavyweight title. The undercard will stream on ESPN+ starting at 7
p.m. ET, with the main card airing live on ESPN starting at 10.
Hailing from Philadelphia, the 33-year-old Jennings is on a four-fight win streak following back to back losses to Luis "King Kong" Ortiz and Wladimir Klitschko, with three of those wins coming via stoppage. Over the course of his career, he has defeated fighters like Artur Szpilka and Mike Perez. He is trained by John David Jackson and has been a proud vegan since 2013.
His opponent, Alexander Dimitrenko, is on a three-fight win streak
following a third-round knockout loss to New Zealand’s Joseph
Parker. He is a World Junior Championships Gold Medalist,
representing Russia in the Super Heavyweight division, and held the
European Boxing Union Title in 2010. Standing at six-foot-seven, he
will tower above the six-foot-three Jennings. He has only three
losses on his record, those coming to Eddie
Chambers , Parker, and Kubrat
Pulev.
The co-main event will see another Philadelphia fighter take center stage, as Jesse "Hollywood" Hart (24-1, 20 KO’s), the son of former middleweight contender Eugene "Cyclone" Hart, faces off against Tacoma Washington’s Mike Gavronski (24-2-1, 15 KO’s).
Hart, the NABF super middleweight title holder, has been on a two-fight win streak since losing a unanimous decision to undefeated WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez last September, while Gavronski has defeated his last four opponents.
The undercard will see heavily hyped Olympic silver medalist Shakur Stevenson (7-0, 4 KO’s) continue his climb towards becoming a serious contender at featherweight, in a match against Mexican journeyman Carlos Ruiz (16-4-2, 6 KO’s), and the return of faltering former pizza maker (he’s on a 2 fight losing streak to Yuriorkis Gamboa and Vasyl Lomachenko) Jason Sosa facing off against Reynaldo Blanco.
