With No Replacement Foe Found, Francis Ngannou Removed from UFC 215 Card

Francis Ngannou has been officially pulled from UFC 215 after the Las Vegas-based promotion was unable to find the rising heavyweight star a new opponent on short notice.

MMAFighting.com first reported the news, and Ngannou is no longer present on the UFC 215 event page on the Las Vegas-based organization’s website.

Ngannou was scheduled to face Junior dos Santos on the pay-per-view main card of the Sept. 9 event but that pairing fell through when “Cigano” was pulled from the card for a possible anti-doping violation a little more than a week ago. The UFC announced it was seeking a replacement foe for Ngannou, and “The Predator” attempted to jumpstart things himself by calling out Alistair Overeem, but nothing came to fruition.

The 30-year-old Ngannou is currently riding a nine-fight winning streak. Five of those triumphs have occurred in UFC competition, with each victory ending inside of two rounds. Most recently, “The Predator” scored a first-round TKO of Andrei Arlovski at UFC on Fox 23.

UFC 215 takes place at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and is headlined by a women’s bantamweight title tilt between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko. In the co-main event, Demetrious Johnson will defend the flyweight crown against Ray Borg.
