Conor McGregor Vows to Knock Out Floyd Mayweather ‘Inside Four Rounds’

Conor McGregor didn’t get as much microphone time on Tuesday as he normally would at an Ultimate Fighting Championship press conference, but he still was able to make one of his trademark predictions regarding his upcoming bout with Floyd Mayweather.

“He is f---ed. There’s no other way about it. His little legs. His little car. His little head,” McGregor said during a press conference at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. “I’m gonna knock him out inside four rounds, mark my words.”

McGregor and Mayweather will lock horns on Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Tuesday was the first leg of a four-city, three-country international press tour to promote their fight. The bout will be distributed by Showtime via pay-per-view for $99.95.

It stands to be the most lucrative payday of McGregor’s combat sports career, and the UFC lightweight champion was clearly relishing the moment.

“What can I say? I’m a young, confident happy man that has worked extremely hard for this. I have worked very, very hard for this. I’m just up here embracing everything,” McGregor said. “Nobody’s gonna do nothing. Nobody can do nothing up here to me. I can do what the f--k I want up here. So I’m just enjoying myself, having a good time. And that’s it.”

That was clearly evident when McGregor took a jab at Mayweather’s recent issues with the Internal Revenue Service.

“He’s in a f---ing tracksuit,” said the nattily-attired Irishman. “He can’t even afford a suit anymore.”

The fight will be contested under boxing rules, with both men wearing 10-ounce gloves for 12 three-minute rounds. Mayweather, of course, is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of all time and the owner of a 49-0 professional record. McGregor is the UFC’s biggest star but has no experience whatsoever in the Sweet Science. That has had little effect on his confidence.

“As far as the fight, he will be unconscious inside four rounds. The movement, the power, the ferociousness. He’s not experienced this,” McGregor said of Mayweather. “He’s fought people who have shied away from him. I don’t fear him. I don’t fear this limited set of fighting. This is a limited set of rules that makes this half a fight, a a quarter of a fight. This isn’t a true fight. If this was a true fight, it wouldn’t even take one round.”

Earlier this year, McGregor had his first child, Conor Jr., with girlfriend Dee Devlin. The “Notorious” one says that fatherhood has given him even greater incentive to perform.

“He is a perfect motivation for me to go in and once again conquer the supposed unconquerable,” McGregor said. “My little boy, to provide for him and to set him up for life. What more motivation could you need? I just look at him and it pushes me on to keep going and doing these record breaking events.”

The event looming should far surpass his recent UFC bouts with Nate Diaz and Eddie Alvarez, although all of those events did extremely well for the Las Vegas-based promotion. However, fighting one of the world’s best boxers is a whole new level.

“No one’s done this s--t before,” he said. “You gotta give me that. No MMA guy has crossed over like this.”
