Bellator NYC Weigh-in Results: Wanderlei Silva, Chael Sonnen Cleared for Clash

Bellator MMA is about to unleash by far its biggest event ever when it invades the Big Apple on Saturday. Bellator NYC will take place at Madison Square Garden, the Mecca of fighting, and to say the marquee is loaded with excellent matchups would be an understatement.

Headlining the whole shebang is a grudge match several years in the making as Wanderlei Silva will finally lock horns with Chael Sonnen. A two-time Ultimate Fighting Championship world title challenger and one of the most polarizing fighters in the sport, Sonnen and his trademark trash talk was ready to go at the scales on Friday and he weighed in at 205.8 pounds. Silva, a former Pride Fighting Championships world champion and one of the greatest fighters in the sport’s history, came in on the money as well. “The Axe Murderer” checked in at 205.8.

The co-feature will see arguably the greatest heavyweight ever as former Pride king Fedor Emelianenko will square off against UFC veteran Matt Mitrione. The American tipped the scale at 256.6 for what is the biggest fight of his career while “The Last Emperor” came in at 236.4.

Three Bellator world titles will be on the line as well. Douglas Lima weighed 170 for his welterweight title defense against Lorenz Larkin, who came in at 169.8; lightweight champ Michael Chandler checked in at 153.8 while undefeated challenger Brent Primus weighed 154.2; and Phil Davis, who weighed 204.8, will put his light heavyweight crown on the line against Ryan Bader (204.4).

The Bellator NYV main card will go live on pay-per-view beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The prelims will stream live on Sherdog.com starting at 6 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
