Ex-Featherweight Champ Jose Aldo Vows to Come Back After UFC 212 Defeat

Jose Aldo delivered his first public statement since his loss to Max Holloway at UFC 212, and the message was largely optimistic.

Regarded as the sport’s top featherweight of all time, Aldo tasted defeat for the second time in his last three Octagon appearances at UFC 212, where he fell to Holloway via third round technical knockout. The Nova Uniao product took an early lead on the scorecards through two rounds thanks to crisp punching combinations but was dropped by a Holloway combination in the third. From there, the 25-year-old Hawaiian pounded away on the mat until the contest was halted at the 4:13 mark.

Aldo recently vowed to bounce back in a statement posted on his Instagram account (translation via MMAFighting.com):

"Be content to act, and leave the talking to others” - Baltasar Gracian

I only have to thank my ‘dad' Andre Pederneiras, the best team in the world, Nova Uniao, because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be the people’s champion, and (thank) all my trainers, who did a super well done job and got me ready, and all my fans who are always with me, here’s my love and my thank you. I’m speechless with all the love I’ve received until today, and every word you send to me. Thank you.

The rest, f--k it, because I’ll come back, because we go down so we can get back up!! That’s it!! We’ll be back!!

Aldo initially lost the featherweight strap to Conor McGregor in a 13-second knockout at UFC 194 in December 2015. He took a five-round verdict over Frankie Edgar to claim interim gold at UFC 200 and was promoted to undisputed champ after McGregor was forced to vacate the title. Prior to his loss to McGregor, Aldo won 18 straight fights from 2006 to 2014 — including 15 in UFC and WEC competition.
