CES MMA 44 Weigh-in Results: Featherweights Clear Final Hurdle for Title Fight

CES MMA, New England’s biggest fight promotion, is headed back to AXS TV Friday night with another slab of controlled chaos. The Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., will see Matt Bessette defend his featherweight title against Rey Trujillo in the main event and at Thursday’s weigh-ins, everything went off without a hitch.

Trujillo, who is coming off a loss to Kolton Englund at Fury FC 16 last month, has won two of his last three, including a first-round submission of James King in the Bellator MMA cage. Trujillo stepped up on late notice to replace the injured Jeremy Spoon and looked in tremendous shape. He was the first to step to the scale and “The Warrior” came in at 145.5 pounds.

Bessette hasn’t lost in nearly two years and has been wrecking shop in the CES cage. He won the promotion’s 145-pound title by submitting Joe Pingitore at CES 37 and defended it via third-round TKO over Kevin Croom at CES 41. He’s stopped his last six foes and expects to do the same against Trujillo. “The Mangler” officially checked in at 145 pounds.

CES 44 will be televised live on AXS TV beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
