Following a first-round technical knockout loss to Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 106 on March 11, Belfort said he would like to end his career at UFC 212. The 40-year-old former UFC champion has one fight remaining on his current contract.
“I really want to finish my career as a professional athlete,” Belfort said then. “This year marks 20 years of my career since I won my belt.”
Belfort has fallen on hard times of late, losing four of his last five Octagon appearances. That includes successive technical knockout defeats to Gastelum, Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo Souza. Belfort’s last victory came via first-round knockout against Dan Henderson at UFC Fight Night 77 in November 2015.
Marquardt, 38, last appeared at UFC on Fox 23, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Sam Alvey. The former UFC middleweight title challenger is 3-7 in his last 10 bouts dating back to 2013.
