HBO PPV Weigh-ins: ‘GGG,’ Jacobs on Point for Crucial Middleweight Unification

One of the biggest fights of the year is a day away as Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will take on Daniel Jacobs in the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden in New York.

Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) will put his WBC and IBF world middleweight titles on the line in a fight that most are expecting him to win. However, his opponent, Daniel Jacobs, is arguably the best all-around fighter he’ll have faced up to this point in his career and is more than capable of pulling off the upset. “GGG” has his sights on a mega fight with Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez later this year and some question his focus going in against Jacobs, but at the Friday morning weigh-ins, the Kazakhstani came in looking as fierce as ever. Golovkin weighed in at 159.6 pounds.

Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) has his WBA 160-pound title on the line in the biggest middleweight unification bout in years. “Miracle Man” has promised the knockout upset ever since the fight was made official and he is the personification of a live underdog. The popular cancer survivor looked as equally ready and sculpted as his foe did and when Jacobs stepped onto the scale, he nailed it. Jacobs, from Brooklyn, came in a few ounces heavier at 159.8 pounds.

The action goes live on HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
