Dana White Confirms Werdum-Velasquez Rematch for UFC 196 in Las Vegas
The heavyweight title rematch between Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez will take place in the United States instead of Brazil.

However, the Las Vegas-based promotion hit an unspecified “stumbling block” in attempting to book the bout in the South American nation and was considering moving it to Las Vegas as recently as last month. Now the booking is official.

Werdum defeated Velasquez via third-round submission at UFC 188 in Mexico City this past June to capture the heavyweight strap. “Vai Cavalo” has won six straight fights in the Octagon. The loss halted a four-bout winning streak for Velasquez, who had alternated triumphs over Antonio Silva and Junior dos Santos.
UFC 196 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. No other bouts have been announced for the organization’s traditional Super Bowl weekend card.
