PBC on FS1: Jose Uzcategui Drops Julius Jackson Four Times, Torches Him in Second

Jackson tried to establish his beautiful jab early on, but Uzcategui was relentless with his pressure. He forced Jackson into an exchange along the ropes and then unfurled a wicked right hook that instantly floored his foe. Jackson struggled to his feet and it was obvious that he was unsteady. Uzcategui closed the gap and gunned for the knockout and he almost got it in the opening frame.
Jackson tried in vain to hang on, elude the attacks and fight his way to safety, but his equilibrium was in tatters, preventing him from doing any of it. Uzcategui chased the U.S. Virgin Islands native all over the ring and scored two more flash knockdowns by the time Jackson somehow managed to survive the round.

Jackson was still a bit shaky going into the second, and Uzcategui made sure he didn’t escape the frame. Jackson (19-1, 15 KOs) was rocked by a combo to the head and when he tried to run away to safety, “The Chef” was knocked onto his back by a sweeping left hook. Referee Tony Weeks had seen enough at this point and intelligently waived it off. The official end came just 45 seconds into the round, allowing Uzcategui to not only improve to 24-1 with his 20th knockout, it sets him up for a shot at IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale, provided he successfully defends his title against Lucian Bute in November.
The co-featured bout inside the Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio was nowhere near as exciting, but Dominican Argenis Mendez bested Miguel Vazquez over 10 rounds. The two lightweights continuously tied each other up and grappled on the inside, but Mendez (23-3-1, 12 KOs) was more effective with his counters and won the decision.
Vazquez (35-5, 13 KOs), a former IBF lightweight champion, had a point taken away in the seventh for repeated holding but it was academic as the Mexican was too far behind on points anyway. In the end, the three ringside judges favored Mendez, a former IBF junior lightweight titlist, via tallies of 99-90, 97-92 and 95-94.
In an exciting welterweight swing bout, Ryan Karl scored a fifth round knockdown and toppled Alfonso Olvera (4-2, 2 KOs) via tallies of 58-55 and 59-54 (twice) to remain unbeaten at 10-0 with 7 KOs.
