UFC Inks Former Cage Warriors Champ Steven Ray for Short-Notice Debut on April 11

Scottish lightweight Steven Ray will make his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut less than two weeks after signing with the organization.

UFC officials Monday announced that Ray will serve as a replacement opponent for Marcin Bandel on the company’s April 11 card in Poland. Bandel was originally slated to meet Canada’s Jason Saggo, who was last week forced to withdrawl from the contest after rupturing his Achilles tendon in training.

“It’s a short lead-in to a fight, but I have two weeks to train as hard as possible and get prepared,” Ray stated in a release. “I’ve been smashing the sparring rounds in every week though anyway as I help my teammates in their fight camps, so come April 11, I’ll be ready.”

Ray captured the lightweight title of English promotion Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, where he competed five times in 13 months and compiled a 4-1 record. His opponent, Bandel, will attempt to rebound from a loss to Mairbek Taisumov in his UFC debut which snapped a 12-fight winning streak.

Headlined by a heavyweight rematch between Gabriel Gonzaga and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, UFC Fight Night “Gonzaga vs. Cro Cop 2” will stream live on UFC Fight Pass from Krakow Arena in Krakow, Poland.
